How to Take a Screenshot
Screenshots of error messages help our support team troubleshoot issues faster. Here's how to take one on any device.
When you run into an unexpected error in RentWorks+, a screenshot gives our support team exactly what they need to investigate — the error message, the screen state, and any relevant details that are hard to describe in words. If you're not sure how to take a screenshot on your device, follow the steps below.
Windows PC
Press Windows + Shift + S on your keyboard. The screen will dim and a small toolbar will appear at the top. Click the first icon (rectangular selection), then click and drag to draw a box around the area you want to capture. The screenshot is copied to your clipboard automatically.
To paste it into an email or support message, click into the message body and press Ctrl + V.
If you want to save the screenshot as a file instead, open the Snipping Tool app from the Start menu, take your capture, and use File ▸ Save As to save it to your desktop.
Alternatively, pressing the Print Screen (PrtScn) key captures the entire screen to your clipboard, which you can then paste directly into an email.
Mac (macOS)
Press Command + Shift + 4. Your cursor will turn into a crosshair. Click and drag to select the area you want to capture. The screenshot saves automatically to your desktop as a .png file.
To capture the entire screen instead, press Command + Shift + 3.
To copy the screenshot to your clipboard instead of saving it as a file, add Control to either shortcut — for example, Command + Shift + Control + 4.
iPhone (iOS)
On an iPhone with Face ID (iPhone X and later): press the Side button and the Volume Up button at the same time, then release both quickly.
On an iPhone with a Home button: press the Side button (or Top button) and the Home button at the same time.
The screen will flash and you'll hear a shutter sound. The screenshot saves to your Photos app under Recents. You can attach it to an email or message directly from there.
Android
On most Android phones: press the Power button and the Volume Down button at the same time and hold for one second.
The screen will flash and a preview will appear at the bottom of the screen. The screenshot saves to your Photos or Gallery app. Tap the preview to edit or share it immediately, or find it later under Screenshots in your gallery.
Note: The exact button combination can vary depending on your phone manufacturer. If the above doesn't work, check your phone's Settings app and search for "screenshot" to find the method for your specific device.
Sending Your Screenshot to Support
Once you have your screenshot, attach it to your support email or drag it directly into an open ticket. If you're chatting with us live, you can paste it into the chat window with Ctrl + V (Windows) or Command + V (Mac).
The more of the screen your screenshot captures, the better — even details around the error message can be useful.
